Why scaling up rewilding?

đź’ˇThe idea of rewilding is simple. If you reinstate some basic ecological processes such as:

  • big herbivores
  • carnivores
  • scavengers
  • ecosystem architects (such as beavers or bison)
  • letting rivers flow free

…and then let nature lead, ecosystems recover much quicker than we would expect.

🤝 And all that without excluding people – actually, great rewilding creates jobs, strengthens communities and repopulates areas such as the España Vaciada (Empty Spain) that have suffered from depopulation for decades.

Rewilding has proven to be one of the key solutions for reversing biodiversity loss, capturing carbon and mitigating climate change.

🤔 But if rewilding works so well, why is it not scaling?

As with many complex problems, the reasons are multiple. But one stands out in our opinion: it has relied so far on philanthropy and grants. Pocket money in the grand scheme of things.

So, how do we make investors interested? How do we turn rewilding into an asset class?

We have some hunches, and that’s what I’m going to be working on for the next few months.

Let’s rewild at scale!

If you’re working in an adjacent industry, we’d love to connect and have a chat to see how we could make this a reality.
